Diagnosis of Autism
First you need to have a presumptive diagnosis to be done by the doctor, based on information received from our parents and their own observation and then will be sent to specific units or psychiatrist with expertise in autism, which made the final diagnosis.
It will be important to know if the child is really autistic or have autism or mental retardation without a hearing (not heard) or other disorders of language and learning.
Diagnosis should be made within 3 years and this has proved useful in the questionnaire CHAT (Checklist for Autism in Toddlers) that is designed for use at 18 months, at which most parents are already concerned with language delay or social development of their child.
Currently, most children are diagnosed by 6 years.Evolution of autism
Changes vary widely: some of them continue to need some assistance when they are older, a group acquire large functional independence and some seem to “outgrow” autism with age.
The prognosis is worse if the child has a nonverbal IQ low and when you are not a meaningful language before age 5. Most autistic children function better in areas of social and language reduces repetitive and stereotypic behaviors as they grow. Often there is any decline at puberty, which often is temporary.
