Dietary Supplements
Most of us do not need any dietary supplement, eat a balanced diet with nutrients.
Some people wonder if their food really is adequate or whether they should take supplements. Typically, these preparations contain one or more nutrients (vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates) and are taken in addition to the daily meal, is unlikely to improve health, except that it suffers some deficiency, in particular, a nutrient .
Who needs these?
Although doctors generally do not support that routinely consume extra vitamins and minerals, under certain circumstances such as pregnancy, they recommend it. Sometimes, certain physical conditions of the stomach, intestine, pancreas or liver inhibit the absorption of a nutrient. Also, persistent diarrhea can cause a deficiency in potassium and magnesium. Likewise, renal diseases are of other shortcomings. In all these cases, although bad in itself is impossible to cure, supplements help provide nutrients.
Some other medications may also interfere with absorption or metabolism of a nutrient. The contraceptive pill increases the need for some B vitamins and vitamins C and E, but in case of a healthy diet, your body and get in sufficient quantities. Other drugs such as anticonvulsants, increase consumption of vitamin D and folic acid. In case of a long-term medication should consult a physician if you really need a supplement.
