Symptoms of Autism

symptoms of autismDescribe the symptoms in all three aspects of behavioral deterioration that we raised in the definition:

- Qualitative impairment in social interaction: the young autistic children do not respond are not interested in their surroundings, parents from early observed a “lack of eye contact,” do not respond with looks, lack of interest in held in arms or rigidity to be held.

This lack of interest is generally maintained throughout his life, though decreasing as they progress in their maturation and may establish parallel play and identify the friends.- Qualitative impairment of communication and language: the spoken language is the most common form of communication between people, but before they set this language, nonverbal language develops. One of the earliest signs of onset of autism is often the lack of nonverbal communication, which is observed between 9 and 18 months. Do not make gestures to point at objects, not moving his head to say “yes” or “no”, do not point objects to share experiences or emotions.

Oral language is always affected. Usually the first words do not begin before the age of 2-3 years, but when you set the language, not a useful language, or social, often repeated constantly all or part of what they hear (echolalia). As children get older and milder cases, may acquire a better language, but will always be limited in some aspects, such as lack of spontaneous narratives, monotonous speech without intonation.

In some cases they may be “pedantic” when discussing the topics that interest them (repeat entire phrases heard previously), may seem “intrusive” because they can not take turns for lack of perception on the other side of the talks, issuing responses unrelated to the topic, and so on.

- Interest and stereotyped behaviors, and restricted repetitive: most young autistic children have repetitive behavior that is characterized by the stereotype and perseverance, such as banging his head, wiggle your toes repeatedly, stepping or turning on feet.

The repetitive style is also evident in the games, so they prefer cars always align exactly the same and do not play with imaginative play and never varied. In older children and less affected, the key feature is the persistent interest in only certain subjects.

Autistic children also have a compulsive adherence to routines and rituals, many of the behavioral disorders are caused by disruption of routines.

If the child with autism does not understand others or care about them, can not enjoy imaginative play, or the exchange of ideas with others, can not integrate past and present experiences to plan ahead, all left is to repeat activities that give pleasure.
